This is by no means a full or extensive list, but I thought it might be fun to show you a few of the places I’ve slept over the past year. You can see that I started the year really strong taking photos of where I slept and then missed several months. One of the biggest lessons of the race is to be flexible, and that definitely applies to where you sleep as well.

August. Gainesville, Georgia, USA

August. In transit on the way to Costa Rica day 1 of getting on the field, I think we had slept 2 hrs the night before.

August. In Transit, Costa Rica. Saw this woman and thought it was a whole mood. We ended up taking around 20 flights and I slept, in really weird positions, but slept nonetheless on most of them.

August. San Jose, Costa Rica. Bunk beds around the world! In between our travel days and getting to our ministries sometimes we have an extra day so we’ve stayed in many different hostels( 11 or 12 I think). This was technically our first night on the field.

August. Platanar, Costa Rica

August. This particular slab of concrete, Costa Rica. We weren’t homeless just had a miscommunication with our host about a job that needed done at 4 am so we were out here waiting/sleeping and then found out he had already done it.

August. Los Chiles, Costa Rica.

August. Back of our host’s car, Costa Rica. Moving vehicles man. Put ya to sleep in every single country.

September. Jaco, Costa Rica

September. In Transit, Costa Rica. Surprisingly I remember sleeping well on these seats.

September. In Transit, Costa Rica. Slept through most of the central/South American bus rides to avoid nausea. I think throughout the year we had 37ish bus rides of lengths from 1hr- 24hrs

September. In Transit, Nicaragua. 3rd bus ride of the day after getting stuck at the border for 6hrs. I remember thinking I had never been that tired in my life.

September. Ciudad Dario, Nicaragua.

September. Ciudad Dario, Nicaragua. After sleep talking/screaming multiple nights in a row, I took my bed into my ‘apartment’ that was actually the kitchen. Routinely woke up to massive bugs or frogs by my head/ on my sleeping pad.

October. Floor of the airport, El Salvador. We had several flights and a 17hr bus ride this travel “day” (usually it’s more than one actual day)

October. Medellin, Colombia. We changed where we were sleeping 5 times in this one month. This one was my favorite besides mega bed( when we all sleep with our mattresses on the floor pushed next to each other).

January. Quarantine, South Africa. Not an actual picture of our sleeping arrangements, just a picture of us in quarantine cause we both tested positive for Covid one day and negative the next morning.

January. Malealea, Lesotho. Kind of looks like a prison bed and it scooped out in the middle because it was a mattress on top of a cot, so it felt like waking up in a child’s car seat. Regardless, this month was hands down, the best sleep of my life.

January. Top of a mountain, Lesotho. The one and only time I used my tent on the race, not including Gainesville. Stunning views, prettiest country.

February. Manzini, Eswatini. Loudest mosquitoes I’ve ever heard, surprisingly comfortable couch.

February. Manzini, Eswatini.

February-April. Kigali, Rwanda. Somehow we always tracked dirt into this bed and it was a lil like a sandbox. Also slept on the floor with my sleeping pad for a good portion of the month, and once on the couch in a Marriott room (the Mariott there is 10/10)

April. Cairo, Egypt. Had a layover, saw the pyramids, Sarah-Katherine’s parents got us a hotel room to crash in. Best day ever.

May. Craiova, Romania. Lots of trains in Europe to sleep on. We had our room set up like summer camp this month with 14 bunk beds which I don’t have a picture of, but it was so fun!

May. Athens, Greece. Hostels round the world baby.

June. Naxos, Greece. Fell asleep on those rocks. Kinda like a hot stone massage bed or something.

June. In Transit, Greece. Don’t have an exact picture of where I slept on this midnight ferry, but imagine slinking down between two rows of airline seats and somehow sleeping under your friend’s feet.

June. Athens, Greece. Slept on my bag, on this table, at the bread factory for around 3 hrs while we waited for anything to be open.

Hope you enjoyed this little look into the year. Traveling, Ministry, always being surrounded by people, can sometimes be tiring. Jesus took naps, so should we!! Sometimes you just have to be creative about where you find the place to do it.

  1. Amen! Thank you for sharing. Jesus was asleep on a cushion in the stern, Mark 11:37.You show it can be done, it is a good reminder of what we take for granted and how we can persevere!

  2. Addie, thank you for sharing such fun bits of your trip!! This is crazy but oh so memorable.!!

  3. So fun looking at your sleep adventures! I can’t believe you only used your tent once! Carried that extra weight allllll year ha

    Also welcome HOME 🙂

  4. So sweet to catch a glimpse of the various places you slept on the WR…as that is definitely what we do for approximately 1/3 of every day! Awesome memories! Maybe some of your squadmates have pics of places you missed (I’m sure you thought of that already!) Sad I won’t see you at Squad Reunion, but excited for your next chapter!
