I delayed writing a blog for a while cause we’ve been so busy this month with ministry and I didn’t feel like I had anything to make the main point of a blog. But it’s been fun in Nicaragua! This month for ministry I’m helping the teachers in Light and Salt Ministry’s classes they run for boys. The vision of this ministry is remarkable, and they’ve seen some serious change in their community from their work. They teach boys age 9-15 subjects such as english, art, music, critical thinking, sports, and Bible.

It’s been incredible to work with the boys and get to form a relationship with them. Never thought I’d be doing sport ministry but that’s rolled into this lol. One of my favorite moments of the race thus far was when I was playing baseball with the boys. I tried to explain in broken Spanish that I don’t really know what’s going on and I’m not good at baseball. One of the boys absolutely would not let me ever talk bad about myself. Every time I said I was bad he would say I was good and then in English he started telling me “Jesus power” every time it was my turn to do anything. It was a really sweet reminder of the way Jesus sees us and just one of the many many ways I’ve seen Jesus in these boys.

Helping with homework in a topic you don’t know in a language you don’t know is an interesting time for sure.

LASM  truly cares about the families they work with and they demonstrate that with their actions. Once a month they visit the boys at home and check in on how the family is doing. I got to accompany a staff member on one of these visits and it was so sweet to see how Holy Spirit is working in their lives and the love they have for their kids.

Another one of my favorite days was when we got to throw a birthday party for all the boys!! Because of COVID some of them couldn’t have celebrations this year and the staff decided it would be a great opportunity to love on the boys and throw them all one huge party! We had one of the greatest dance parties I’ve been a part of(when these boys commit to a dance off, they COMMIT to a dance off, it’s fantastic watching them go all out), games and prizes, and a soccer tournament. They came in costumes and we simply had the best day ever.

I’m super pumped about this month and just grateful for the opportunity to be in Nicaragua working with these kids. Thanks God!

  1. I bet you’re the best at planning and celebrating the birthday parties! Does knowing Italian and Latin roots/stems help you pick up Spanish?? You mean all those years of dance doesn’t help you play baseball (ha,ha)! You’re right where you’re suppose to be! I love you and miss you and I’m praying for you and pinky promise.

  2. Addie…so much love for you ? Thank you for sharing your journey. Maybe the “One Big Party” was a teeny tiny taste of the “One Big Party” we will all be having in eternity! Prayers & Hugs!

  3. What a great example of the blessings we reap when we seek to serve others! You received encouragement to focus on what God can do in you…even when you’re not good at a sport!
